Indiangrass is an excellent choice for providing nesting cover for quail and turkey, as well as fawn cover. It is a highly desirable tall grass and is often considered one of the "big four" prairie grasses, alongside little bluestem, switchgrass, and big bluestem. This warm-season perennial bunchgrass is native to North America and grows to a height of 36 to 84 inches. Throughout the year, its color changes from blue-green during the growing season to golden tan at maturity. It is easily recognized by its claw-like ligule, where the blade attaches to the sheath. Indiangrass is very nutritious and is commonly used as green forage or for making dry prairie hay.
