Description:

Indiangrass is a warm-season perennial grass that is highly palatable to livestock and benefits various wildlife, including game birds, songbirds, and white-tailed deer, by providing food and habitat cover. Even in its early growth stages, it can be easily identified among other native grass species by its distinctive "rifle-sight" ligule, located at the junction where the leaf attaches to the stem. This grass typically grows to a height of 3 to 8 feet, thrives in various soil types, from heavy clay to sandy conditions, and can tolerate acidic soils and bare ground. Indiangrass is also effective for erosion control in critical areas, such as along roadsides and regions susceptible to wind erosion.
