Native Rough Dropseed

Dropseed, also known as Sporobolus asper, is commonly found in dry prairie ecosystems. Two grasshopper species, the Two-Striped Slantfaced Grasshopper and the Slantfaced Pasture Grasshopper, feed on Rough Dropseed. The seeds, which develop late in the summer, are also a food source for many birds. Rough Dropseed is a warm-season grass that actively grows during the summer when soil temperatures are warm.
