Description:

Partridge peas are known for their striking yellow flowers with deep red stamens, which attract bees and other pollinators. This plant is also referred to as the Sensitive Plant because its leaves retract when touched. Partridge Pea is an annual legume that enriches soil nitrogen levels and produces attractive maroon seed pods in the fall, which readily self-seed in medium to dry soils. It typically grows to a height of 2 feet. These seed pods serve as excellent food for game birds and songbirds that spend the winter in the area. Partridge pea is native to much of the eastern United States and was previously known as Cassia fasciculata.
