Hickory King White Corn is an heirloom field corn variety known for its large plants, ears, and kernels. This white, open-pollinated variety produces plants that can reach heights of 12 to 13 feet. Each plant typically bears two large ears, which are usually around 9 to 10 inches long. The ears have tight husks, effectively protecting them from corn earworms and beetles. Due to the size of the plants, Hickory King White Corn should be spaced 10 to 12 inches apart to allow them sufficient room to grow. The plants develop strong root structures that support their tall foliage. Hickory King is an excellent variety for roasting when the corn is still in the milking stage, but it is also delicious when ground into cornmeal, making it suitable for cornbread or grits.
